Have a Merry Christmas

I have always liked Charles Schultz "Peanuts" cartoons. The cartoons have been made into tv programs and specials(I'm sure most everyone knows this but I am noting it regardless.) I always enjoy the specials. In the Christmas special, One of my favorite parts is where Linus tells Charlie Brown the real meaning of Christmas.

Matthew 1:23-25
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS."
Matthew 2:1-10
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy."

Another favorite of mine in the special is when Charlie Brown's small tree can't hold a tiny ornament. He is very disappointed, but others come to see the good in the tiny tree and do what they can to make the tree special. In the end, a tiny tree becomes beautiful.

I'll end with a quote by Albert Einstein-"The ideals which have lighted me on my way and time after time given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. . . . The ordinary objects of human endeavour -- property, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible."
Have a Holly, Jolly Day and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
